"I'm Just Getting Soy Sauce" is a Chinese expression which describes a bystander or someone who is passing through. This was my perception of myself when I was travelling through China. I saw myself as someone who is passing through, taking photos, and trying not to be noticed. It was important to me that my photos look natural without people knowing they are being photographed. It might seem sneaky, but to me the essence of street photography is to capture a fleeting moment without retakes or changes. In my photos I tried to portray a bit of China and what a visitor can expect to see when they visit this fascinating and vibrant

"Ja tylko po sos sojowy" to chińskie wyrażenie, które oznacza osobę postronną, niezaangażowaną w daną sprawę. I tak też postrzegałem siebie, przemierzając Chiny. Zamierzałem po prostu podróżować, robić zdjęcia i starać się pozostać niezauważonym. Chciałem, by moje zdjęcia wyglądały naturalnie, a ludzie uwiecznieni na nich nie wiedzieli, iż byli fotografowani. Może brzmi to trochę niegrzecznie, ale esencją fotografii ulicznej jest dla mnie uchwycenie ulotnej chwili bez powtarzania ujęcia. Moje zdjęcia są próbą ukazania kawałka Chin oraz tego, czego może oczekiwać osoba odwiedzająca ten fascynujący kraj.

Tomasz Panasiak was born in Warsaw, Poland and raised in Toronto, Canada. During the day he is an English teacher, and after work he is an avid photographer. The photos were taken during an almost two year stay in China where he worked as an English teacher. During that time he survived winter without heating, and learned to eat with chop-sticks. The purpose of his stay was to learn about life in China and capture it in photos unlike the ones seen in travel magazines.
